Onsite Heavy Equipment Operator Licensing Training
Our OSHA Aligned onsite trainer will come to your worksite and take care of all your heavy equipment operator training.
- We come to you from Rexburg, Idaho (additional travel expenses may apply) to train your employees on your own equipment. We recommend having a group of 5 to 10 trainees or more.
- Onsite Training is a great option if you prefer not to do your own classroom training or online training.
This hands-on training is taught by our experienced OSHA-aligned trainer professionally and quickly.

The onsite training option takes the shape of a classroom setting, with a trainer who presents the course information to your employees and can answer questions along the way. Onsite training also includes:

- A practical exam with workplace equipment
Onsite is especially great as well for the opportunity it gives employees to see and learn with their specific workplace equipment before beginning work with it. This can be adapted depending on the preferences of the employer as well. What this means is that you can choose if you want the trainer to focus more time with hands-on training or classroom instruction.

Construction Safety Inspection
Our onsite trainer can do risk assessments of your workplace. This is like an OSHA inspection, but rather than giving a rating, our trainers will give you advice and pointers on how to stay OSHA Aligned.
Their site inspection is optional, meaning they will only perform an inspection of your workplace if you ask for one. Ultimately, this will help your company assess the hazards and risks of the workplace.
Construction Safety Checklist
Here at Hard Hat Training, we also have checklists that come in our training kits. Our onsite trainers will bring a kit with them to use for the training. Training kits usually are used with the Train the Trainer module, a course that prepares the employer how to teach the training kit material themselves.
The checklist included in the training kit is intended to be used by the employer to inspect and evaluate the risks or hazards present in their workplace. This is like the safety inspection, but instead of being done by the trainer, we provide the needed materials and checklists so that it can be done by the employer.
Course Records and Certification
Trainers will leave you with all the records you need to prove that our training is OSHA Aligned. Every employee that attended the training will also receive a full-sized certificate upon completing the course. Wallet cards are not required by OSHA, but we can provide you with those as well.
Your Site, Your Choice
It may seem obvious by now, but another major benefit of onsite training is that you get to choose when and where you want the training. You can have the training at your workplace, and you get to choose the day and time you want the training to be held.
You also get to choose how much time is spent doing hands-on learning with your workplace equipment. If you want to spend less time actually teaching with the equipment and more time in the classroom teaching theory on using the equipment, it is up to you.

Not all of our onsite training courses will have the same cost. Some of the courses are a bit longer than others and will probably end up costing more for that reason. The cost will vary depending on how many days you would like our trainer onsite. Travel expenses for the training will also be added onto the price.
However, you don’t need to worry about adding additional costs for how many employees you need trained. We recommend that 5-10 or more employees attend our onsite training. There is no additional cost if more employees join than your initial estimate.
Consider too that the more employees you have, the less the course will cost, but the trainer will not be able to give each of them their full attention throughout the training. Almost all of our Hard Hat Construction Safety Training courses found in our training catalog have the option for onsite training. There are some courses, however, that are more popular when it comes to onsite construction courses.
Most of these courses are heavy machinery or equipment courses, but not all of them. Some of the more popular onsite course options are:
- Scissor Lift: Our scissor lift training focuses on learning the basic anatomy of a scissor lift and all OSHA Requirements associated with it. Our trainer will also teach your employees how to properly inspect and operate one.
- Yard Truck: Our yard truck training also focuses on the basic anatomy of the vehicle, OSHA Requirements regarding it, and how to properly inspect and operate it.
OSHA Aligned Construction Safety Training
Here at Hard Hat Training, we offer effective onsite training for a large variety of industries, including construction. The construction industry is known for being one of the most hazardous work environments in the world. For this reason, safety training is especially important and employees would benefit the most from onsite training.
Our onsite training is OSHA Aligned with all construction-related standards. Onsite safety training for the construction industry is the most beneficial format of safety training for many reasons. There are many benefits to onsite safety training that specifically help employers to keep their workplace OSHA Aligned.
Know the Risk
Approximately 20% of all work-related deaths occur in the construction industry (BLS). If employees are not trained they will not only be less effective workers, but they will also increase the likelihood of injury and death in the workplace. As their employer, it is your responsibility to train your employees and face the consequences if you neglected to train them.
To maintain a safe workplace and make your employees effective and reliable workers, give them the training they need. They will have questions and will need specific instruction. For this reason, onsite safety training is the best option for you.

Other workplace safety training options include online, which has its advantages and disadvantages. Online training is a more cost-effective option that allows your employees to pace themselves and take the training on their own schedule.
Online training usually is taken all at once and can take anywhere from a few hours to two days to complete. Online doesn’t provide the opportunity for asking questions from the trainer directly though, and also doesn’t provide any hands-on learning experiences for your employees.
We also offer training kits, which work as a do-it-yourself option. Training kits contain all the course material and certificate templates so that you can train and certify your employees yourself. If you are not familiar with how to train your employees, we can provide you with a train-the-trainer module to prepare you to do so.
Onsite Training Frequently Asked Questions
Can we send an employee to your site for training?
On occasion, we do host classes at our site, but we prefer to travel to your site. Heavy equipment operators should be trained on the equipment they will be using and on a job site that is close to, if not the actual, job site they will encounter day in and day out. If your operators work on docks or vessels, in warehouses, or on a construction site, receiving training in a classroom and then hopping on a machine in a parking lot may not suffice. At the same time, no one knows their employees, equipment, and site like employers. OSHA places the ultimate responsibility to train operators and trainers on the shoulders of the employer. We are simply a resource for you to use, and we like to discuss the training as well as the employee needs with you before, during, and after the training.
How many students can we have in our on-site operator or on-site train-the-trainer class?
We do not necessarily like to place a limit on the on-site training class without knowing the situation. Ultimately, it depends on the level of experience of the operators, as well as how we decide to structure the class based on your needs. Typically, though, we like to have around 12-15 individuals in a class. This allows us the time we need to focus on them individually. It will also give them extra time on and around the machine during the hands-on training portion of the class. There are always situations that call for exceptions though.
Do you offer any online train the trainer classes?
Yes, we do offer online train the trainer courses. While it does not allow for any actual time around the equipment (which is not required for trainer certification anyway), it can be a very cost-effective way to save on travel expenses, etc.
How do you structure your onsite training classes?
This will depend on a number of variables. Typically, though
- We start with a classroom portion
- Followed by the written exam
- We then spend the rest of the time on and around the machine (which includes the required observation portion, also called the practical exam).
However, since the ultimate responsibility to approve training falls on you, the employer, we like to make you a part of the decision process. If you want us to spend more time outside on the machine, then we can do that. If you want us to go into more detail on theory, we can do that too. This is your company and your employees; we are simply here to help you get them trained in the most effective way possible.
What do we get with the onsite training classes?
At the end of the operator on-site training classes,
- We leave you with all of the records you need to prove OSHA-aligned training.
- Every operator also receives a full-sized certificate.
- While wallet cards are not required by OSHA (contrary to popular belief), we can also supply wallet cards for individual operators.
- Train the Trainer trainees will receive the same documents with an additional safety training kit which contains all of the materials they need to put on their own safety training.
Is an On-Site Train-the-Trainer class required by OSHA?
There is a lot of confusion out there, and many companies think Train the Trainer classes are required. However, the bottom line is that they are not required by OSHA. Some companies may require their trainers to receive trainer certification, but that is up to them. In the end, as is the case with operator safety training, the responsibility to designate a trainer falls on the shoulders of the company itself. If OSHA were to come in, the employer would simply need to prove why they chose the trainer they did (because of years of experience training, operating, etc.). Trainer certification by a recognized third party, such as Hard Hat Training, also comes with prestige.
What if I cannot afford onsite training?
We are happy to offer TTT classes. However, if you do not have the budget, you may consider purchasing our training kits. These contain all of the materials we use when we certify operators via onsite heavy equipment operator licensing training, and they are yours to use, reuse, and customize to put on your own operator training class in-house. They even come with instructor notes.
