What is The OSHA Outreach Training Program?

The OSHA Outreach Training Program is a voluntary program that seeks to provide workplace safety training. The courses teach workplace hazards, workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file an OSHA-level complaint.

Its purpose is to promote workplace safety and health as well as help workers become more aware of their rights. The OSHA Outreach Training Program was initiated in 1971 and has grown significantly since then. In recent years, more than five million workers were trained in job hazard recognition and prevention through this program.

Understanding OSHA Training – OSHA 10 & OSHA 30

An essential fact about OSHA is that the organization itself does not provide training and/or distribute Department of Labor cards for employers and employees. The organizations and companies that sell these training courses are not directly associated with OSHA. The courses that are offered certify employees to perform certain tasks or work in certain environments.

The employer is responsible for creating a safe work environment and ensuring that their employees are properly trained. Employers should choose a reliable retailer that gives the necessary information that their employees need.

OSHA Standards vs. OSHA Outreach Program

It is important to note that the OSHA Outreach Program is voluntary and does not meet the training requirements for any OSHA standards. Some states and companies might require any of the offered courses as a condition of employment, but it is not required by OSHA.

It is also important to note that the completion of any OSHA Outreach Program courses does not substitute other training courses required through OSHA standards.

How Safety Makes an Impact

Workplace safety is very important for each and every employee in the industry because all workers desire to work in a safe and protected atmosphere. Workplace safety will minimize the risk of injury on the job.

A safe and healthy workplace not only protects workers from injury and illness, but can also lower injury and illness costs, increase productivity and quality, and raise employee morale. More than that, it is the right thing to do.

Safety training courses, regardless of the format, help employees become more informed and conscious about their own safety as well as the safety of their fellow employees.

Without safety training, employees will be unprepared when facing hazards in their workplace. If hazards and incidents are not handled properly, it puts even more employees at risk of getting hurt. Safety training reduces the possibility of injury and death, benefiting everyone.
